Max Eternity @ MaxEternity.com | Art Review – Abounding in Arc Gallery’s current exhibition is a collective of contrasting polyptychs created by 16 Bay Area artists.  Arc Gallery is located on Folsom Street in Downtown San Francisco in the heart of SoMa; the “South of Market” Street district that has fast become the city’s prime locale for the most artsy, hip and edgy.  The group show is being billed as an “experience of sixteen micro solo exhibitions,” in which all works are priced under $500.

The show is curated by Michael Yochum and Matthew Frederick, and featured artists include Sharon Beals, Francesca DuBrock, John Fitzsimmons, Charles Garrett, Erika Meriaux, Beth Mullins, Hadley Northrop, Lucky Rapp, Eric Rewitzer, RubySpam, Diana Ruiz, Maja Ruznic, Ron Saunders, Alberto Toscano, Kay Weber and Brooke Westfall.

Highlights of the show present the super, high gloss, polychromatic vignette by Lucky Rapp, whose C2 paint-based work seems to have drawn inspiration from modernist artist, Ellsworth Kelly.  Rapp’s work is entitled “Paint Politics,” and includes an interesting narration about the artist’s relationship with G&R Paints of San Francisco.

“Once Upon A Time In America” is a series of photographs on aluminum panel, by John Fitzsimmons.   Of the work, Fitzsimmons says “the abandoned trailers, drive-in, and gas station still speak of an age gone by,” but adds that within the photos “there is a quite acceptance.”

German-born artist, Kay Weber shows his mastery of paper-cutting, which spans more than 2 decades, in a series, entitled “White”.  Weber says his art is most often inspired by “mythological themes and multi-cultural stories of folk tradition,” and that each piece is a one-of-a-kind original.
